The Gathering of Fragments

Part of my series Before a Ruin, A Cry, draws from personal experiences, current events, and the words of James Baldwin and Octavia Butler. Exploring themes of truth vs. denial, inclusion vs. exclusion, destruction and rebirth.

The work also reflects on the fluidity of time—how the present is shaped by the past and how it, in turn, shapes the future. Each stitch weaves between moments, captures reflections, draws patterns of resistance and resilience, as Octavia Butler said, “All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.”  Each piece investigates the powerful words of James Baldwin, who warned that “If we do not adhere to change, we will burn in a biblical apocalypse.”
